Trying to pick a free PC game without wasting a download? Compare the hardware floor first. “Free-to-play” covers everything from a 4GB strategy client to a 16GB open world, so genre and price alone will not tell you whether your rig is a good fit.

This table uses the current HudPicks game records, with official requirements preferred and secondary reports labeled. Minimum specs are a compatibility filter—not a promise of smooth gameplay, a preset or a frame rate.

Quick answer by hardware tier

  • 4GB RAM / older graphics: Project Entropy has the clearest official low-end floor. Sea of Conquest is a reported 4GB option, but its GPU requirement is not published by the developer.
  • 8GB RAM / entry-level graphics: RAID and Zenless Zone Zero both list 8GB, but ZZZ has a much heavier GPU and storage demand.
  • 16GB RAM / dedicated GPU: NTE and Arknights: Endfield belong here. They are not low-end games even though they are free.
  • Unknown minimum: Rise of Kingdoms publishes recommended specs, not a defensible minimum. Do not guess.

Zenless Zone Zero Windows Core i5 7th gen 8GB GTX 970 minimum 57GB + 58GB unzip F2P, gacha, PvE action
Rise of Kingdoms Windows / Mac Minimum not published Minimum not published Not published 10GB+ recommended F2P, purchases, alliance PvP

Arknights: Endfield Windows Core i5-9400F 16GB GTX 1060 6GB 50GB + 40GB extract F2P, gacha, battle pass

Confidence note: Sea of Conquest uses secondary-source requirements; FunPlus does not publish a detailed PC spec sheet in the current record. Rise of Kingdoms publishes recommended information rather than a verified minimum. Those rows must not be presented with the same confidence as Steam or publisher requirements.

Best fit for 4GB RAM and integrated graphics

Project Entropy

Project Entropy is the cleanest low-end candidate because its official Steam minimum lists 4GB RAM and a GTX 460 / Radeon HD 4400-class GPU. The game is a sci-fi MMO strategy title with fleets, civilizations, PvE and PvP.

The catch is that the listing publishes no recommended specs, and the Steam client itself now requires Windows 10 or later. In-app purchases and online PvP also mean that a light hardware floor does not mean a light competitive economy.

Sea of Conquest: Pirate War

Sea of Conquest has a reported 4GB minimum and 8GB recommendation, plus 10GB of free space. Its ship, crew and guild loop makes it a plausible older-PC option on paper.

But the GPU is not specified in the publisher documentation currently recorded. Treat this row as a lead for further checking, not as a guaranteed compatibility result. The existing HudPicks offer is disabled and stays separate from the editorial judgment.

Best fit for 8GB RAM

Star Trek Fleet Command

Scopely lists Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i3-4130, 8GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4400 for PC. That makes STFC a more realistic check for an older laptop than the newer open-world titles here.

However, Scopely warns that the minimum specs alone may not be enough to enjoy the game and does not publish recommended PC specs. The live-service loop may be a bigger commitment than the hardware.

RAID: Shadow Legends

RAID lists 8GB RAM, Windows 10 21H1 or Windows 11 21H2, a DirectX 11 or Vulkan-capable GPU and 5GB of storage. Its graphics requirement is expressed as an API capability rather than a specific modern card.

The bigger filter is the game loop: RAID is a collection RPG with gacha, auto-battle, clans and PvP modes. A compatible PC will not solve a monetization or grind mismatch.

Zenless Zone Zero

ZZZ also lists 8GB RAM, but it does not belong in the same hardware tier as RAID. HoYoverse lists a 7th-generation Core i5, GTX 970 and 57GB storage, with an additional 58GB for the unzip process. That is a much heavier GPU and disk request than “8GB RAM” alone suggests.

Check the ZZZ guide before downloading. RAM is only one column in the decision.

Best fit for 16GB RAM

NTE: Neverness to Everness

NTE lists 16GB RAM minimum, a Core i7-10700, GTX 1660 / RX 5600 and 70GB storage. It is an Unreal Engine 5 open-world game with driving, exploration, combat and co-op.

That makes it a poor blind download for an older laptop. Meeting the RAM number alone is not enough; CPU and dedicated GPU are the real gatekeepers.

Arknights: Endfield

Endfield lists 16GB RAM, a Core i5-9400F, GTX 1060 6GB and 50GB free space plus 40GB for extraction in the current official requirement. It also recommends SSD installation.

It is a strong fit for a capable 16GB desktop, but not a low-spec game. Keep the extraction headroom in mind before clicking download.

What minimum requirements do not tell you

  • Minimum is not smooth. A minimum list describes a target configuration, not a universal frame-rate guarantee.
  • RAM does not equal GPU power. Two 8GB PCs can have completely different graphics hardware and results.
  • Storage can be a hidden bottleneck. A launcher may need temporary extraction room above the final installed footprint.
  • Recommended specs can hide missing data. The correct editorial answer for Rise of Kingdoms is “not published,” not an invented minimum.

Use the SSD storage guide before planning a large library and the PC specs guide for the exact Windows checks.

FAQ

Which free PC game has the lowest requirements?

Project Entropy has the clearest official low-end figures: 4GB RAM and a GTX 460 / Radeon HD 4400-class GPU. Sea of Conquest has a reported 4GB requirement, but no detailed publisher GPU requirement.

Is 8GB RAM enough for free PC games?

For some games, yes. RAID and STFC list 8GB, while ZZZ also needs a much stronger GPU and large storage headroom. RAM alone is not a compatibility verdict.

Can I run NTE or Endfield on an old laptop?

Only if the laptop meets their CPU, GPU, RAM and storage requirements. Both are 16GB-class games with dedicated-GPU requirements; neither is a low-end title.

Are minimum requirements reliable?

They are useful filters, not performance guarantees. Use official requirements first, then look for current patches, launcher notes and documented hands-on testing.

Bottom line

For a low-end PC, start with Project Entropy and cautiously investigate Sea of Conquest. For an 8GB laptop, STFC or RAID may be more realistic than a modern action RPG. For a 16GB desktop with a dedicated GPU, NTE and Endfield become possible—but neither is low-spec.

Compare the full matrix before downloading. The right free game is the one that fits your CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and tolerance for its monetization loop—not simply the one with the lowest price.
